Mission Emission

Calculate the Environmental Cost of Your Travels

Mission Emission has a goal to raise awareness of the environmental impact of traveling

Project Details

We are based in Sofia, which is one of the most polluted cities in Europe. Winter usually is the worst time, very often the air is so dusty that you can see what you are breathing. That is why we created this website, that calculates the emissions a vehicle produces when commuting to a certain destination and suggests alternative ways of transportation.

“The World Health Organization estimates that 4.6 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution.”

Color Palette

The World Health Organization estimates that 4.6 million people die each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution. Therefore it was close to mind to go with the high contrast of yellow and dark grey popular for the (bio)hazard and danger signs.

The second reason to choose this color scheme was because we wanted to make the project pop when featured in news, magazines and blogs because of the bright and bold colors. It worked out.

Web App

The main goal of the web app was to be easy to use and to retain users’ attention. In other words—to have the lowest Exit Rate possible. To archive this, we stripped the needed steps to just the bare mininum of three.

In the first step, you select your type of vehicle. In the second step, you select the vehicle’s fuel type—petrol, diesel, LPG, or even hybrid and fully electric. The third step is about the route you’re going to commute. That’s it!

On the results page, you can make fine adjustments to the fuel consumption of your car and see how much CO2 and NOx you'd generate by taking this route. You can also read about alternative transportation, its environmental impact, and some interesting facts related to the eco footprints.

We have also created an “About” page where we tell a bit more about the project’s idea and list all of the data sources used. We have prepared a set of media information and wrapped it in our Press Kit archive.

In The Media
